New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) plans to demolish slums in the capital if it wins the upcoming Assembly elections on February 5.
Kejriwal made the statement during a press conference following his visit to a slum in Shakurbasti. He accused the BJP of disregarding the welfare of slum dwellers and prioritizing the interests of the wealthy.
“BJP does not care about slum dwellers and treats them like ‘insects.’ They are eyeing the land occupied by the slum communities. For five years, they ignored these people, and now, during elections, they suddenly pretend to care for their votes,” Kejriwal alleged.
His remarks were also a counter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who had criticized Kejriwal for alleged extravagance. Shah accused Kejriwal of spending public money on luxurious toilets in his official residence, calling it a “sheeshmahal” (glass palace), claiming they cost more than the entire slums of Delhi.
Kejriwal rejected the allegations and turned the spotlight on BJP’s approach towards Delhi’s underprivileged. “The BJP is a party for the rich and has no genuine concern for slum dwellers or their issues,” he asserted.
The former Chief Minister urged slum residents to vote wisely in the upcoming elections to protect their homes and interests, reiterating AAP’s commitment to their welfare. “We will continue to stand with the slum dwellers and ensure their rights and dignity are safeguarded,” he said.
