If Gandhi’s name is to be taken, Congress must be dissolved: Bommai

Former Chief Minister and MP Basavaraj Bommai accused the Congress of using the Constitution to repent for the injustice and disrespect they showed to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the “Constitution Honor and Book Launch” event organized by Citizens for Social Justice, Gadag, and the Bharatiya Janata Party, Gadag, at the Vitthalarud Sabha Bhavan in Gadag on Friday.
He said it has been 75 years since the Constitution was framed, and debates are ongoing about its pros and cons. After its formation, the Congress misused the Constitution during their administration. The Indian Constitution is among the greatest and most vibrant in the world, responding to people’s needs. In 1947, 19 countries under British colonial rule gained independence alongside India. However, only India has sustained democracy. Here, they have individual freedom, freedom of speech, equal rights, and human rights. This is all due to the Constitution created by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
Bommai said Dr. Ambedkar faced humiliation and disrespect. Although many people supported his education, when he returned to Mumbai as a barrister, the Congress-supported Bar Association denied him membership. This, too, reflects the injustice towards him. “Our nation’s heritage, spiritual thoughts, and cultural values deeply influenced Ambedkar. At that time, Sir Siddappa Kambali of Hubli helped Ambedkar secure a position as an assistant professor. During this period, Ambedkar had the opportunity to read about Basavanna. As a result, the ideas of equality from Basavanna, Kanakadasa’s philosophy of ‘Don’t fight over caste,’ and the vision of a secular society became integral to the Constitution.
” The principles of equality, regardless of color, caste, or gender, and the equal treatment of women are enshrined in our Constitution. Kanakadasa’s comparison of millet and rice in ‘Ramadhanya Charite’ highlights social equality, which is reflected in our Constitution,” he added.
“Governance must be lawful, where everyone is equal under the law. Fraternity, harmony, unity, and integrity are core principles of the Constitution, yet the Congress opposes them. Soon after independence, Congress divided the country. The Constitution emphasizes economic and social equality, but Congress created economic inequality. They spoke of ‘Garibi Hatao’ (Remove Poverty) but ended up removing the poor instead. Congress failed to provide economic equality,” the former CM said.
Congress should Be Dissolved
He said Mahatma Gandhi led the freedom movement. In 1924, he was invited to preside over the Belgaum Congress Session. Today, Congress chants ‘Jai Bapu,’ but Gandhi himself advocated for the dissolution of Congress after independence. Congress is now using the Constitution as a prop to atone for the injustice done to Ambedkar. The Congress misused funds reserved for SC/ST welfare, leading to major scams in organizations like the Valmiki Corporation. Yet, no one was punished for these frauds. The Karnataka Congress government has truly wronged the SC/ST communities.
“Rahul Gandhi has disrespected the Constitution. When the Supreme Court ruled that Muslim women must be given alimony, Muslim clerics opposed it under Sharia law. Then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi supported Sharia law, violating constitutional principles,” the MP said.
The Constitution Is a sacred text
Bommai said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared the Constitution his sacred text. The BJP has brought constitutional amendments to abrogate Article 370 and ensure Kashmir’s integration. Former Prime Minister Vajpayee gave constitutional status to the SC/ST Commission. PM Modi amended the Constitution to grant constitutional status to the OBC Commission. In contrast, the Congress made amendments for selfish gains, undermining people’s rights. They declared an Emergency to suppress dissent and jailed one lakh opposition leaders, turning the nation into a police state. Even today, Karnataka is being run like a police state. Protecting the Constitution is our responsibility, and we will do it.
During the event, MLAs C.C. Patil and Dr. Chandru Lamani, MLC S.V. Sankanoor, former MLA P. Rajeev, Kalakappa Bandi, BJP district president Raju Kuradagi, SC Morcha district president Manjunath Mulagund, and leaders like Ravi Dandin and Shri Mahindra Koutal were present.
