New Delhi: The Congress party today fiercely criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his silence on the gang-rape allegations against Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli. The accusations have sparked outrage, and the Congress has called out the BJP for its continued inaction on sexual harassment cases involving its leaders.
Alka Lamba, president of the Mahila Congress, accused the Prime Minister of hypocrisy over his “Beti Bachao” (Save the Daughter) campaign, saying that BJP leaders are the very ones who pose a danger to women. “Daughters need to be saved from BJP leaders,” she remarked, vowing that Congress would not tolerate any injustice to women.
In a press conference today, Lamba detailed the allegations against Badoli, claiming he gang-raped a woman under the pretext of securing her a government job, filming and photographing the crime. She also highlighted other disturbing cases involving BJP leaders, including BJP leader Ajit Pal Singh Chauhan from Madhya Pradesh, who was arrested for raping a woman.
Lamba reminded the press of several other high-profile sexual harassment accusations against BJP leaders, including BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused of sexual harassment, and Kuldeep Singh Sengar, a BJP MLA previously accused of rape. She also pointed out that Prajwal Revanna, a mass rapist in Karnataka, was supported by the BJP ally, with the Prime Minister campaigning for him.
Further, Lamba accused BJP MLA Hans Raj from Himachal Pradesh of sexual harassment and taking inappropriate photographs of a woman, while also referencing Uttar Pradesh MLA Ram Dulare and the infamous case of Swami Chinmayanand, both involved in sexual harassment scandals.
Lamba also condemned BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri for his objectionable comments about women, which led to protests and a forced apology. Despite the apology, Lamba emphasized, BJP continues to promote such disrespectful behavior.
The Congress leader highlighted the internal turmoil within the BJP, with accusations from BJP spokespersons such as Neha Shalini and Nikhat Abbas, alleging that women in the party are subjected to exploitation and intimidation, with posts being offered based on physical appearance and leaders’ demands.
Lamba went on to accuse the BJP of shielding perpetrators of sexual violence and pressuring authorities to avoid taking action, preventing justice for women. She criticized the Women’s Commission for its inaction on these cases, calling it a failure in its duty to protect women.
Finally, Lamba demanded that Mohanlal Badoli be removed from his position as Haryana BJP president, urging Prime Minister Modi and the BJP to take responsibility for the alleged crimes committed by their party members.
