Delhi and Noida were shrouded in a thick blanket of fog on the morning of Wednesday, January 15, 2024, as a severe cold wave gripped northern India. The dense fog reduced visibility to near zero in many areas, causing significant disruptions to daily life, including potential delays in flight and train services.
As residents of the capital woke up to the dense fog, temperatures hovered around 10°C at 5:30 am. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a minimum temperature of 9°C and a maximum of 19°C for the day. The IMD also predicted that the sky would remain generally cloudy, with light rain or drizzle expected in the region.
The cold wave has forced many homeless individuals to seek shelter in night shelters, where they could find some respite from the harsh weather. The fog is expected to persist through the night and into the early morning hours in parts of West and East Uttar Pradesh, while dense fog conditions are likely to continue in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan until January 18.
Residents are advised to exercise caution while commuting due to the reduced visibility, and authorities have urged people to use fog lights and drive slowly to avoid accidents. The ongoing cold wave has made life challenging for many, and the IMD has advised citizens to stay warm and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the cold.
