New Delhi: Popular food delivery company Zomato has undergone a corporate rebranding, changing its official name to Eternal Ltd. The decision was approved by the company’s board of directors and was disclosed in a regulatory filing on Thursday. Despite this corporate renaming, the Zomato food delivery app will retain its existing branding and name.
Why the Name Change?
Zomato originally started as a food-tech company but has since expanded its business operations significantly. It acquired quick-commerce company Blinkit and also ventured into logistics and wholesale food supply. Given this diversification, the company needed a broader corporate identity, leading to the adoption of the name Eternal Ltd.
“When we acquired Blinkit, we had already begun using the Eternal identity internally. The decision to formally adopt this name was inevitable as our non-Zomato businesses pave the way for our future,” said Deepinder Goyal, Co-founder and Group CEO, in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
Business Divisions Under Eternal Ltd
Eternal Ltd now houses four major businesses:
- Zomato – The food delivery platform, which retains its existing branding.
- Blinkit – A quick-commerce service acquired by Zomato.
- Hyperpure – A wholesale supplier of vegetables, groceries, and other food products to restaurants, cafes, and hotels.
- Distrikt – A ticket-booking service similar to BookMyShow for various events and entertainment programs.
Each of these businesses has its own CEO, while Deepinder Goyal will continue to serve as the Group CEO of Eternal Ltd.
Impact on Stock Listings
The name change will be reflected in stock exchange listings, with Eternal Ltd replacing Zomato Ltd in official records. However, customers using the Zomato app for food delivery will not experience any changes in its branding or services.
This strategic move aims to strengthen Eternal Ltd’s corporate identity, enabling it to venture into new business opportunities beyond food delivery while maintaining its market leadership.
